Vascular Disorders in Children are rare but potentially serious problems. Our Neurosurgical Team works closely with Interventional Radiologists to diagnose and treat vascular malformations of children. Common vascular disorders include: AVM or Arteriovenous Malformations, Cavernous Malformations, and Vein of Galen Malformations. These abnormalities can hemorrhage or cause stroke and may need an angiogram to diagnose and/or treat. Surgical removal is often necessary. We also have at our disposal a GAMMA KNIFE radiosurgical unit to apply focal radiotherapy to AVMs and Tumors in difficult locations. A certain type of stroke in children, Moya Moya Syndrome, involves the occlusion of the arterial supply to the brain and may require a bypass procedure (also called revascularization) with which we have extensive experience. Our Neurosurgical Team will discuss these treatment options with you in detail.
