Physician Assistants (P.A.’s) are practitioners who work with neurosurgeons and extend patient care. They should not be confused with medical assistants, who perform routine clinical and clerical tasks. P.A.’s are formally trained to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services, as delegated by a physician. Working as members of the health care team, they take medical histories, examine and treat patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and X-Rays, and make diagnoses. The P.A.’s record progress notes, instruct and counsel patients, and order or carry out therapy. As part of the Childhood Neurosurgery and Center for Hydrocephalus team, P.A.’s perform the following functions:
  • Assist in surgery, deliver pre and post-operative care to patients in the hospital
  • See patients with the neurosurgeons in the outpatient clinics
  • Provide patient education
  • Take phone calls regarding patient matters
  • Promote continuity of care to patients and their families
Childhood Neurosurgery and Center for Hydrocephalus currently has four P.A.’s which helps promote a high level of care for our patients.
